Grace Nathy Achen, a Ugandan promoter of Teso music has reportedly been killed in the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, family says.
More than 170 Palestinians and other nationals, including at least 41 children, have been killed in Gaza Strip in the past week and about 1,000 others wounded.
On Saturday, Israeli forces flattened at least two residential buildings including al-Jalaa tower, an 11-storey building in Gaza City housing some 60 residential apartments and a number of offices such as those of Al Jazeera Media Network and The Associated Press.
Singer Gabriel Elesu alias Star Khid Ug, a brother to Achen says the sister, now suspected to be dead, worked around the bombed al-Jalaa tower and her employers on Saturday reached their uncle by phone to inform him of the incident.
“She is my sister, Grace Nathy Achen. She had gone to Israel for her agricultural work,” Elesu told this news website.
Her whereabouts could not be traced after the incident and her mobile phones are out of reach, according to Elesu.
It is suspected that she died in the attacks although there is a possibility that she could be trapped under the rubble of the destroyed buildings where rescue teams are currently working to free the trapped people.
“That (one of the bombed building) was her address and we have had no communication since the incident happened,” Elesu said on Sunday.
Achen, 26, left Uganda for Israel in April last year for agricultural work in Israel and has always contacted his brother on a daily after work.
“Someone as special as Nathy will never be forgotten. She will remain in our hearts forever,” wrote Star Khid Ug on social media.
Achen was a regular user of social media including facebook where she would among other things crack jokes with her followers. In her last post, shared two days ago, Achen said that she was “looking for a boyfriend that will be with me till I get a husband.”
Meanwhile, the European Union foreign ministers are today scheduled to hold urgent video talks on the escalating fighting between Israel and the Palestinians, according to EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Barrell.
“In view of the ongoing escalation between Israel and Palestine and the unacceptable number of civilian casualties, I am convening an extraordinary VTC of the EU Foreign Ministers on Tuesday. We will coordinate and discuss how the EU can best contribute to end the current violence,” Borrell wrote on Twitter Sunday.
