FUFA’s Magogo appointed Vice President on CHAN organising committee

Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) President Moses Hashim Magogo has been appointed as vice-president of the African Nations Championship organising committee, CAF revealed on Tuesday.

The decision to appoint Magogo was reached on during the meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee held in Kigali, Rwanda over the weekend.

Magogo who is also a member of the CAF executive committee representing the Central and East African zone (CECAFA) will work under Cameroon FA (FECAFOOT) president Seidou Mbombo Njoya.

Seidou Mbombo was vice president of the Local Organising Committee of the 2020 CHAN tournament, held in his native Cameroon between January and February.

“Building on the success of the recent Total CHAN 2020 organised in last January-February on Cameroonian soil, the Acting FECAFOOT President Seidou Mbombo Njoya is brought to the head of the committee.”

“FUFA President Mr Moses Magogo will assist him as vice-president,” a statement from CAF read.

Magogo was recently voted Member of Parliament for Budiope East in Buyende District and is also running for a third term as FUFA president.

He succeeded Vipers SC chairman Lawrence Mulindwa as FUFA president in August 2013 and was re-elected into the office in 2017 for another four years that lapse in August 2021.

Magogo has served in several positions both with FIFA and CAF. He was a member of the FIFA Security and Integrity Committee (2015-2017), Chairperson CAF Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee.

He also served as a member of the CAF Organising Committee of the Inter-Club championships, FIFA Football Administration, and Management Instructor.

He was co-opted on the CAF Executive Committee in 2017 by CAF President Ahmad Ahmad, being elected in July 2019 to represent the CECAFA region on the CAF executive committee.

The next edition of the CHAN tournament which is exclusive to players playing in their respective national leagues is set to be held in Algeria in January 2023.

Uganda Cranes will seek to make a sixth consecutive appearance at the tournament when the qualifiers get underway in 2022.

The Cranes have however had disappointing performances at CHAN, failing to progress past the group stages of the tournament in each of their appearances so far.
