Mathias Mpuuga appointed Leader of Opposition in Parliament

Mpuuga’s appointment was announced on Friday by David Lewis Rubongoya, the Secretary-General of NUP.

BREAKING NEWS: Masaka Municipality MP Hon. Mathias Mpuuga has been appointed the Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the 11th Parliament.

Mpuuga’s appointment was announced on Friday by David Lewis Rubongoya, the Secretary-General of NUP.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party deputy president for central region will now take over from Hon. Betty Aol Ochan of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) as the leader of opposition in the 11 parliament.

In other appointments, the Manjiya County MP, Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe has also been named the Opposition Chief Whip, a position that was previously held by FDC Spokesperson and Kira Municipality MP, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.

Nambeshe will be deputised by Hon. Kyebatukira Manjeri, the Woman MP for Jinja City, while Busiro East legislator, Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona will head the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

About Mathias Mpuuga

Formerly a Democratic Party member, Mpuuga joined the National Unity Platform (NUP) in 2020 led by Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, 2021, presidential candidate together with 10 other DP Bloc members. 

Others included; Joseph Ssewungu (DP), Medard Ssegona (DP), Betty Nambooze (DP), Moses Kasibante (Ind), Muwanga Kivumbi (DP), Allan Ssewanyana (DP), Ssempala Kigozi (DP), Ssentongo Robinah (DP), Veronica Namaganda (DP), Florence Namayanja (DP). 

He was instrumental in January 2021 mobilisation that saw the NUP sweep many MP seats in Central region.
