Parliament Secures Rent Space for MPs at Kingdom Kampala

Parliament has secured office rent space worth 9,030 square meters for new MPs offices at Kingdom Kampala mall as the legislators begin their new term in office.

Chris Obore, the Director of Commission at Parliament confirmed this to journalists saying this is part of parliament’s quest for office space to accommodate the big number of MPs in the eleventh parliament the recently commenced its legislative mandate. The rent will cost about Shs9.8bn per year according to the statement.

“The Parliamentary Commission will pay Shs9.8 billion per year for 9,030 square meters within the Kampala Kingdom,” Obore was quoted.

The Commission opted for the Kampala Kingdom due to its proximity to parliament but above all the conducive environment in which it could accommodate even space and parking needed for the legislators.

In addition to office space, there will be parking space for 300 vehicles, and the contract will start on July 15 and run for a period of two years

The 11th Parliament of Uganda has a total of 529 legislators, including 353 directly elected representatives representing constituencies as compared to the 2016 house that had 426 representatives and so this called for increased office space.
