Three buried alive in Kiryandongo stone quarry

KIRYANDONGO DISTRICT: Three people were pronounced dead instantly after being buried alive at a stone quarry in Kiryandongo District.

The unfortunate incident according to residents occurred on Saturday evening at about 5:00 pm at the hydropower station in Karuma Town Council from Kiryandongo District.

The deceased have been identified as David Otingcwinywa aged 23, Cwinyaai James aged 39 and a 33-year-old man only identified as Boy, all residents of Dima Sub County.

Two other people were critically injured and are admitted to Restoration Gateway Hospital. These are Alfred Obwot and Rodgers Opar.

Joseph Oryem, the LCI Karuma Town Council says that the deceased was extracting construction aggregates for sale when the soil developed deep cracks forcing the rocks to roll down and buried them.

Oryem however warned people to desist from quarry work in the area until a survey is conducted to ascertain the condition of the area.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kiryandongo hospital for post-mortem.
