Kaweesi Murder suspect arrested over Gen. Katumba shooting

CRIME: One of the suspects facing trial in the High Court over the murder of Andrew Felix Kaweesi has been arrested again in connection to masterminding the attack which claimed the lives of Gen Katumba Wamala’s daughter and driver.

Yusufu Nyanzi, who has been on bail, was arrested on Tuesday from his home in Kampala, according to his lawyers of Wameli and Company Advocates.

The lawyers led by Godfrey Turyamusiima told journalists on Thursday that their client was arrested together with his son but the latter has since been released.

However, Mr Turyamusiima said he does not know where Nyanzi is being arrested. He said he went to the Special Investigations Unit in Kireka but was told the suspect was not held there

He is now demanding Nyanzi’s unconditional release saying that it was the fourth time his client is being rearrested since 2017 but no evidence to date has been adduced to implicate him of all the capital crimes against him.

“However, our next step is to go to Mbuya and if he is not there, we shall go to court and file an application for habeas corpus demanding for his immediate release,” he said.

Nyanzi was first arrested in early 2017 on charges of killing the former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Mambewa.
