COVID19: 1,397 new cases registered, 42 deaths

The latest Covid-19 update released on Saturday, June 19, indicates that Uganda has registered 1,397 new coronavirus cases with 42 deaths according to the Ministry of Health statistics.

The figures indicate a slight drop in the number of Covid-19 infections reported in 24 hours from 1,564 recorded as reported from the previous update released on Friday.

The 42 deaths resulting from Covid-19 means Uganda has now surpassed 600 covid deaths the figure standing at 626 since the first case was reported in March of last year.

President Yoweri Museveni in his Friday address announced a 42-day national lockdown, banning public and private transport in a bid to slow down the infections.

Public and private transport, churches, bars and all non-essential services were banned for the 42 days as the fight against Covid19 rages on.

According to the breakdown of infection figures, Kampala remains the hotspot of the pandemic and registered 790 new infections as per the update.

Wakiso had 125; Kalungu, 69; Luwero, 68; Mbarara, 43; Kalaki , 35; Kaliro, 31; Mpigi, 18; Kyotera, 16; Tororo, 15; Kasese, 12; Mbale, 11; Rakai, 10; Soroti, 10; Kazo, 10; Kiryandongo, 9; Jinja and 10.

Others included Adjumani, 9; Busia, 9; Gulu, 6; Hoima, 6; Mukono, 5; Nakasongola, 5; Gomba, 4;Kikuube, 3; Kanungu, 3; Iganga, 20; Masindi, 2; Kabarole, 2; Luwero, 2; Buikwe, 1; Kiboga, 1; Kakumiro, 1; Buliisa, 1; Ntungamo, 1; Buikwe, 1; Lwengo, 1; Amuru, 7; and Kayunga, 1.
