Gen. Wilson Mbadi replaces Muhoozi as new CDF, Elwelu deputy

KAMPALA: President Yoweri Museveni, also the Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of Uganda has appointed Lt. Gen. Wilson Mbadi the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

Gen. Mbadi, formerly the Deputy CDF and Inspector General of the UPDF replaces Maj. Gen. David Muhoozi who was recently appointed as Internal Affairs Minister.

Mbadi has been the Deputy CDF since January 2017 when he replaced Lt. Gen Charles Angina, with the latter being sent to serve as the Deputy Commander of Operation Wealth Creation. Prior to his previous role, from May 2013 until January 2017, he served as the Joint Chief of Staff of the UPDF.

Lt. Gen Peter Elweru who has been the commander of the Land Forces Commander and UPDF representative in parliament Lt. Gen Peter Elweru has been appointed to the Deputy CDF serving under Gen. Mbadi who now heads the force.

Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Keinerugaba, the first son has thus been appointed the new commander of Land Forces, replacing Elweru in the role.

In other appointments, Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda who has been the Chief of Staff Land Forces has now been appointed the Joint Chief of Staff to replace Lieutenant General Joseph Musanyufu who has been sent to civil service for redeployment.

Brig. Peter Chandia has also been appointed to head the Special Forces Command, Maj Gen Sam Kavuma appointed as the deputy coordinator of the Operation Wealth Creation whereas Maj Gen Sam Okiding is the new Deputy Commander of Land Forces .
