The COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged the economy world-over and the education sector has not been spared either. The endless lockdowns have seen many several schools, universities greatly affected by this new normal. Only a handful of these institutions that prepared earlier for this era are able to continue operations despite the closure of physical classes.

Victoria University Kampala is among the few universities that have switched efforts to technologically based e-learning classes to ensure its students enroll, study, and finish their courses to graduate despite the lockdown era.

As a center for academic excellence, the University recently announced that with their V-Class e-learning platform, a student can now have their classes virtually, and also submit their course assessments online. The V-class system also allows students have their end-of-semester examinations online, regardless.

The University Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Lawrence Muganga, revealed to the DailyExpress that as an institution, the management had already anticipated the closure of learning institutions again and that they were prepared to shift the learning to online.

“Victoria University is one of those institutions that have technologically-enabled learning. So nothing changes in view of the President’s announcement. What only changes is that students will continue their studies online and from home and have interaction with their lecturers,” Dr. Muganga told the DailyExpress.

“The announcement comes at a time when some of the students are already gearing up for their end-of-semester exams scheduled for July. The technology also enables students to do their exams from home and well invigilated using artificial intelligence and learning embedded in the system of our e-learning management system. We are not worried about these new developments since we have been preparing for such eventualities,” he added.
