Police officer arrested for allegedly killing resident at checkpoint

Police in Luwero district has in custody their own officer, a one Nicholas Muloni for allegedly stabbing a resident to death at a police roadblock.

Muloni, who is attached to Ziroobwe Police Station, was arrested last week and detained at Luwero Police Station in connection with the death of Kassim Luyinda.

According to preliminary Police investigations, Luyinda, a resident of Ziroobwe in Luwero, was on June 23 riding past a Police roadblock at Kiziri village when Muloni allegedly stabbed him with a bayonet.

Luyinda sustained a deep wound in the left rib and died of excessive bleeding later at Bugema Health Centre III.

The Luwero acting District Police Commander, Patrick Maikula, said Muloni is the prime suspect because he was part of a team manning the roadblock on the day of the incident.

Maikula said they had earlier on arrested two other officers who were at the same roadblock to help in the investigations, but were later released.
