Security guard in Ibanda murdered in cold blood

The body of Asinguza was picked by the Police and taken to Ruhoko HCIV for a post mortem.

Police in Ibanda district has launched a manhunt for assailants who attacked and killed a security guard at the Nile Breweries Ltd depot facility and after took off from the scene with his gun.

Levi Asinguza, an employee of the Millennium Security Company-Ibanda branch was brutally murdered on Monday night by unknown assailants who later dragged his body at Kashuku street near the roadside.

The incident happened in Kibugaija Upper cell village of Bufunda ward, Bufunda Division Ibanda Municipality on Monday night as the deceased was going about his duties of patrolling the depot.

Paul Muhenda, the officer in charge of crime investigations department at Ibanda Police station said Police preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was cut with a panga and hit by a hammer on the head because he had deep cuts on his neck.

The Police detectives recovered a hammer with bloodstains at the scene of the crime.

Asinguza’s supervisor Nalasisio Ndyabahika said the deceased had been deployed for night duty with a gun registration number SAR gun which was taken by the assailants.

Asinguza hails from Kagongo cell, Kabare ward, Bisheshe Division Ibanda municipality.

Edwin Asaasira, the manager at Nile Breweries at Ibanda depot, told media that the deceased disappeared from his colleague with whom he was guarding at midnight, only to be discovered dead in the morning.

He, however, said the facility has active Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) that will help police in its investigations.

Benon Keimustsya, the Bufunda Division Chairperson said this similar incident took place in the same place where people were killed and dumped on the roadside.

“We appeal to residents of Kyabugaija Upper to be more vigilant and become concerned with their neighboUrs’ security,” Keimustsya said.

No arrests have so far been made according to Micheal Akaturinda, the acting district police commander Ibanda Police station.
