COSAFA Women Championships: Crested Cranes pitted in Group C

2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship

The Uganda Senior Women’s National Football Team (The Crested Cranes) will feature at this year’s COSAFA Women’s Championship after learning their group opponents.

In the draws held on Thursday, Uganda has been placed in Group C alongside Namibia, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), and Zambia.

This will be the second time the Crested Cranes are taking part at the Championship on the invitation. The maiden appearance came in 2018.

This year’s edition is slated to take place on 19th -26th September in Port Elizabeth, South Africa where the tournament has been staged for the last four years.

It should be noted that the Crested Cranes faced all the aforementioned in 2018 with the games against Namibia and Eswatini coming in the group stages.

Uganda defeated Eswatini 4-3 in the opening game with Hasifa Nassuna (brace), Norah Alupo, and Resty Nanziri. The other game against Namibia ended goalless.

In the third place playoff, Uganda overcame Zambia with Tracy Jones Akiror scoring the solitary goal.

Goalkeeper Ruth Aturo was named the best shot stopper at the tournament.

Group B: Botswana, Tanzania, South Sudan, Zimbabwe
