Soroti Herbalist found dead at lover’s house

SOROTI CITY, UGANDA: Police in Soroti City is investigating the mysterious death of a traditional healer who was found dead in his girlfriend’s bedroom on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, Charles Ekimu was a resident of Orwadi Cell, Orwadai Ward in West Division in Soroti City.

According to residents, Ekimu was on Monday seen going about his normal duties but the news of his sudden death shook them entirely with many pointing fingers at his girlfriend as the prime suspect.

Out of grief, and anger, the angry residents attempted to stone the deceased’s girlfriend but they were restrained by the former Katakwi deputy resident district commissioner, Mr. Vincent Enomu, a close relative of the deceased. Police arrived shortly at the scene and took away the suspect.

Enomu said it was unlawful to lay hands on a suspect since there was no evidence that she killed the deceased.

By press time, the possible cause of death had not been established. The body of the deceased was taken to Nakatunya mortuary for a post-mortem.

“We went to the scene to rescue the situation, as investigations go on, we shall give proper information based on the results from the post-mortem,” ASP Oscar Ageca, the acting police spokesperson in the East Kyoga region, said.

The deceased has been treating patients with different ailments such as epilepsy and reproductive problems using herbal medicine at his home in Orwadai.

Mr Stanley Ojelel, a brother of the deceased, said the police report would inform their next plan of action.
