Ex-Minister Kiyingi dismisses claims of fundraising for Lumbuye’s release

Former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Asuman Kiyingi

Former State Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Asuman Kiyingi has distanced self from reports that he is among the list of people fundraising for the release of toxic social media blogger Fred Kajubi Lumbuye, who was arrested in Turkey at the beginning of the month.

Kiyingi who says he received this information from his sister Madina Kiyingi Matege who saw the fundraising list in a WhatsApp group, noted that he was shocked when he saw his name among those raising funds for the NUP blogger.

“I wish to categorically disassociate myself from the purported fundraising. The said Asuman Kiyingi (if he exists at all) is not me. I have never registered this number attributed to me or used it anywhere. I do not know the Fred Lumbuye Kajubi referred to and I am not in any way associated with him. I am currently not engaged in any fundraising effort for him or any other person,” he said.

“Any statement or report to the contrary is false and malicious. It is criminal impersonation which should be treated with the contempt it deserves.”

Asuman Kiyingi is a former Member of Parliament for Bugabula South and a staunch supporter and mobiliser of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
