Lt. Gen Pecos Kutesa, one of the longest-serving generals in the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) is dead.
The UPDF spokesperson, Brig. Gen Flavia Byekwaso announced the death of the retired bush war major in a statement released on Tuesday afternoon saying his death occurred on Tuesday, August 17, in India where he had been flown for treatment.
”The UPDF fraternity with deep sorrow regrets to announce the untimely passing on of Lt Gen Pecos Kutesa which occurred today, 17 August 2021 while on admission at Max Hospital, New Delhi, India,” reads part of the statement.
Reports indicated that he succumbed to complications related to internal body organs.
Lt. Gen Kutesa was among the list of UPDF Generals who were retired by Gen. Museveni earlier this month on August, 05.
Kutesa, a freedom fighter who struggled for Uganda’s liberation under the National Resistance Army (NRA) led by President Yoweri Museveni was commanded of the UPDF Center for Doctrine Development and Synthetisation until the time of his retirement.
The former NRA guerilla combatant became a member of the Uganda Constituent Assembly in 1995 and has until recently represented UPDF in Parliament and was the chief of the military doctrine of the forces.
