BREAKING NEWS: The Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) Maj. Gen Paul Lokech is dead, the Uganda Police force announced on Saturday morning.
“The IGP with deep sorrow regrets to announce the sudden demise of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Major General Paul Lokech,” a statement on Uganda Police’s Twitter account reads in part.
According to close family sources, Lokech reportedly succumbed to a blood clot from his home on Saturday morning.
After receiving the news about the demise of his deputy, IGP Martin Okoth Ochola said: ”I have tasked the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Moses Byaruhanga to carry out a post-mortem to establish the cause of death.”
Formerly the Commandant of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre in Jinja, Lokech was appointed by President Museveni to become deputy IGP on December 15, 2020, during a tense electoral season.
At the time of his death, Lokech has been at the center of the investigation into the attempted assassination of Gen Edward Katumba Wamala.
