KWANIA, UGANDA: Grief and shock has hit residents of Adaglako village in Kwania district after a man who reportedly killed his wife was found lying dead, allegedly after committing suicide.
Kenneth Opong, 38, a resident of Adaglako cell in Ayabi ward, Ayabi town council is said to have stabbed his 26-year-old wife identified as Beatrice Kia after a domestic misunderstanding.
According to a report by URN, Opong is said to have returned from a drinking joint in a nearby trading center at around 9:00 pm on Sunday and started assaulting his wife using a panga, leaving her in a critical state before he took off.
His neighbors rushed to the scene when the deceased made an alarm and they attempted to rush her to a nearby clinic, but she died on the way.
Innocent Ogwal, a brother of the deceased says the couple had been having misunderstandings, with each accusing the other of cheating, a matter that went before the clan leaders several times but was not settled.
Moses Okello, the LCI chairperson of Alak A village in Ogwil parish, who is neighbouring Adaklako cell says Opong was a drug addict and was always violent.
His body was discovered on Monday morning, few meters away from his home.
Sgt. Lawrence Okello, the Officer in charge of Ayabi police station confirmed the incident, saying the Opong’s body was taken to Lira Regional Referral hospital for postmortem.
