Adjumani Police traffic boss on the run after brutalizing boda-boda cyclist

ADJUMANI, UGANDA: The Adjumani Resident District Commissioner – RDC Mr. Taban Data Peter has ordered for the immediate arrest of the police traffic inspector identified as Odong after hitting a boda- boda cyclist for dead along Adjumani-Omi ferry landing site road.

The boda-boda cyclist who was returning to Adjumani town after dropping a passenger at Omi ferry landing site was hit by the OC traffic using a club after the cyclist allegedly ignored the traffic sign ordering him to stop.

The victim identified as Tabu Richard, a resident of Amuru village, Boroli parish in Pakele sub-county was rushed to Adjumani hospital and admitted in the surgical ward.

The victim Tabu Richard aged 21, sustained a deep cut running almost across the forehead attracting multi stitches.

Still groaning in agony and struggling to speak he says he failed to stop where he was ordered to due to loose breaks but the traffic boss ignored that and hit him when he was already crushing by the roadside they abandoned him lying in a pool of blood and drove off.

Akomi Charles the elder brother of the victim said when he approached the acting DPC Evan Musiije so that he is transferred to a private health facility but he was rudely told to turn away and try other avenues.

This morning the boda-boda community in Pakele town council mobilized and stormed the office of the RDC demanding for the immediate arrest of the OC traffic and that the victim be transferred to the private wing.

The RDC Taban Data Peter who was surrounded by the noisy boda-boda cyclists said he has confirmed the incident occurred and the OC traffic Inspector Odong is responsible and announced that already he has ordered for the arrest of the suspect.

After the brief meeting at the gate of the office of the RDC, the boda-boda cyclists who were raging with fury re-organized and advanced to the central police station gate and started pelting the police with stones, the police re-acted firing three shots in air and they scattered.

The acting district commander Evan Musiije a self-confessed enemy of the media could not be approached or even reached for comment.

On November 28, 2017,, the members of Adjumani boda-boda Association overran Adjumani central police station after their chairman Anyama Michael was in error of judgment shot dead by a police officer who jointly went to effect an arrest a suspected motorcycle thief in Pakele town council.

The incident badly backfired as the enraged boda-rides mobilized in hundreds, stormed the police station killing one police officer and in the ensuing running battles, a student of Biyaya secondary school was hit by a stray bullet killing him instantly.
