KOLE DISTRICT, UGANDA: Police in Kole district have arrested a 23-year-old man accused of killing his father over Shillings 5,000. The suspect identified as James Olugu, is a resident of Bargri cell, Eastern ward in Aboke town council.
Olugu was arrested on Sunday evening shortly after striking his father Alex Ogwang with wood on the forehead over a dispute of Shillings 5,000 and killed him instantly.
According to George Ocwic, an eyewitness, the deceased was punishing his teenage daughter for the alleged theft of the money.
Ocwic says the suspect intervened to save his sister and instead picked timber, which he used to strike his father on the forehead killing him instantly.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said police had picked up the suspects to help in investigations.
Police have opened a case of murder at Kole CPS on CRB 091/2021. According to police records, North Kyoga Police region registered 92 murder cases between January and May 2021.
Mob action is the biggest contributor to murder cases followed by domestic violence, murder by shooting, poisoning and use of blunt objects.
