The two MPs appeared before Masaka Chief Magistrate Charles Yeteise on Tuesday afternoon and were charged with fount counts, three of murder and one of attempted murder.

The prosecution also contends that on Aug 23, 2021, while at Ssetala village in Kimanya Kabonera division, the duo participated in the murder of Sulaiman Kakooza, Michael Kiza Nswa, and Tadeo Kiyimba. Robert Ssebyato survived an attempt on his life.

Earlier on Tuesday, the MPs were summoned and appeared at Masaka Central Police Station where they were questioned on the same murders. After being probed for hours, they were released on a Police Bond.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga in a security briefing on Monday that the two MPs were summoned after some of the suspects connected them to planning the murders in meetings held in Ndeeba, a Kampala suburb.

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana now join 23 other suspects who have so far been arrested in connection with the Masaka killings.

According to Enanga, 11 of the suspects have already appeared in courts of law, whereas the others are pending court appearances.
