KAMPALA, UGANDA: Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been named the Deputy President of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change – FDC in Buganda Region, the party announced on Friday.
Lukwago replaces Owek Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo who was dismissed from the party after accepting President Museveni’s appointment to serve as the junior Minister for ICT and National Guidance in the NRM-led government.
Formerly a stronghold of the Democratic Party and Vice President in the Besigye-led People’s Government, Lukwago last year officially announced his membership as an FDC cadre in a move that was tipped to revive the party that was facing a crisis with many of its top leaders flocking to join its former President Mugisha Muntu in the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party.
The Friday changes also saw Hassan Kaps Fungaroo replace Ingrid Turinawe as the party’s National Mobilization Secretary. Turinawe was suspended from FDC for going against party principles when she stood as an independent in Rukungiri for the MP race in the last general elections.
Also, Soroti MP Anne Adeke Ebaju has replaced Hon Kevin Taaka as the Deputy President in charge of the Eastern Region.
