KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police in Kampala has confirmed that two officers attached to the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) sustained critical injuries after a vehicle they were traveling in rammed into a moving train on Thursday morning.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened at the Kireka railway crossing in Nakawa division Kampala.
“A UPDF land cruiser registration number H4DF2180 was in a collision with a Uganda Railways locomotive. The Police fire and rescue service was able to rescue two UPDF soldiers albeit, in very critical condition,” Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire added that the two rescued soldiers both Privates were in very critical conditions and have already been taken for treatment.
Uganda Railways Corporation confirmed the incident happened when the army vehicle knocked a commuter trained at around 7:19 am at a railway crossing in Kireka.
