BUKEDEA, UGANDA: Local government leaders in Bukedea District are currently pushing for the creation of new counties and elevating the district to a municipality status.
According to the LcV chairperson Mr. Olemukan Moses, Bukedea district now qualifies for the municipality basing on the current population and its infrastructure level.
Mr. Olemukan further said, the idea of elevating old subcounties to the county status is a good one and it will help in three key cores of Social, Economic Transformation.
He listed Kolir, Malera, and Kidongole subcounties as those that qualify to get the county status in the district.
Bukedea District is currently operating under two counties of Kachumbala and Bukedea with 16 subcounties overall.
