Security guard in Bukedea lynched over cattle theft

The security guard was identified as Robert Okello, working at Tujenge company limited.

BUKEDEA, UGANDA: A private security guard attached to Corporate Security Service Uganda limited has been lynched by a mob in Kakere village, Kocheka sub county in Bukedea district.

The security guard was identified as Robert Okello, working at Tujenge company limited.

The mob lynched him as he was untying cattle from the home of Robert Okabi, a resident of Kakere village.

Robert Okabi, the cattle owner says he got Okello in a security guard uniform untying cattle and when he asked what he was doing, he immediately responded that he was on duty.

“It was at night when I came out to check on my cattle since the rate of cattle theft with use of vehicles is alarming in our village, I found Okello untying my cattle and when I asked him what he was doing, he said that his on duty,” said Okabi.

“I chased him while making an alarm until other community members rounded him up and killed him while in his uniform,” Okabi added.

Kokas Emuron, the LC1 chairperson of Kakere village confirms and identifies the deceased as a resident of Ngora.  Emuron also added that last week, over five families were robbed of cattle using vehicles and it is these acts that angered residents who lynched Okello.

“Many times people are crying because of their cattle being stolen using vehicles, now yesterday when Okello was got untying cattle, he tried to take off but people surrounded him and killed him,” said Emuron.

The deceased body is still at Bukedea health center IV mortuary.
