KAMPALA, UGANDA: Uganda has received a donation of 501,153 and 153,900 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from the governments of Belgium and France to boost the vaccination exercise in the country.
The consignment of these AstraZeneca vaccines which arrived in the country on Wednesday, September 22, were received by Mrs. Margaret Muhanga at the Embassy of Belgium in Kampala and Enabel – the Belgian Development Agency, in charge of logistics and coordination with the Ugandan authorities.
“Government of Uganda has received an additional 501,153 and 153,900 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the Governments of France and Belgium respectively,” Ministry of Health tweeted on Thursday afternoon.
“The consignments received by @MargaretMuhanga will be used to continue the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination exercise.”
This donation adds to the 1.6 million doses of Pzifer covid vaccine received last week as another donation from the US government.
Dr. Aceng when receiving the Moderna vaccines two weeks ago said the country expects to get 27 million vaccine doses including Johnson and Johnson, through COVAX Facility and the African Union starting next month (October).
