WAKISO, UGANDA: Kakiri police in Wakiso District have arrested the Headteacher and four teachers for illegally conducting lessons during the lockdown.
The five were arrested in an operation conducted at Fremah Nursery and Primary School located in Kikubampanga Village in Kakiri Town Council, where 146 children were found studying despite the ongoing restriction on schools countrywide to fight against the deadly Covid-19.
The five suspects according to police are currently held on allegations of doing a negligent act likely to spread an infection.
These include Namutebi Maria Matilda, 41, the headteacher, Nakaweesi Cissy, 20, Adoto Florence, 28, Namakula Rebecca 34, Nayiga Christine 20, all teachers at the school.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 28, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigire, said police have informed the parents to go and pick their children as investigations continue in the matter.
Owoyesigire revealed that a total of 712 motorcycles, 147 motor vehicles were impounded and 250 suspects arrested for violating the covid-19 guidelines outlined by the President in his many addresses to the nation.
The suspects are currently detained at different police stations where they will, later on, be released on police bond and issued with express penalty tickets, which they will have to pay first for their vehicles and motorcycles to be released.
Meanwhile, Owoyesigire said Police will continue with operations on curfew compliance in the Kampala Metropolitan area.
