KAMPALA, UGANDA: Victoria University Kampala (VU) has re-affirmed that socialite Shanitah Namuyimbwa alias Bad Black is their Brand Ambassador following social media backlash and confusion that has marred the public since her appointment on Monday this week.
This comes barely a day after Victoria University held a press conference on Tuesday this week where Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga told journalists that Bad Black joined the institution as a student of English Language and Digital Marketing. This he said, automatically qualifies her to become a student ambassador and not Brand Ambassador as social media users had interpreted earlier.
“All Victoria University students and alumni are our ambassadors. As our student, Shanitah Namuyimbwa automatically becomes a Victoria University student ambassador,” Muganga said on Tuesday.
However, in a twist of things, Victoria University has today (Wednesday, 29, 2021) released another press statement maintaining its position on Bad Black’s appointment as their Brand Ambassador despite the confusion that continues to arise in the general public.
“We would like to re-affirm that Ms. Shanitah Namuyimbwa; is our University Brand Ambassador; contrary to the interpretation made in some media circles,” reads in part Wednesday’s statement.
According to VU, social media reports misinterpreted Tuesday’s communication for which they had to come out and clarify on her appointment and set records straight.
“So, this communication re-affirms our initial and continued position that Ms. Namuyimbwa is our University Brand Ambassador. the University has to this effect, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with her,” VU said. Adding that; “We have explained to her, responsibilities and obligations of a Brand Ambassador of this fast-growing, transformative institution.
Victoria University further reiterated that through its innate mandate to transform society through providing quality and meaningful education that works for everyone without discrimination or segregation, they believe that anyone who wants to better himself or herself should join them as they are a proven, problems solver.
“Uganda Our job is to transform and rehabilitate those that desperately need help to become better people and Ms. Shanitah Namuyimbwa becomes a better example of such vulnerable people that need urgent help to hand-hold them to ably transform their lives.”
“At Victoria University, as transformers, we say We’re The University of You, we also say that No one should be categorized a failure by an exam, we believe that education systems are the culprits here that fail to understand the potential of students.”
Background
It all started with Bad Black signing a contract with Victoria University through its Vice-Chancellor on Monday, which was thereafter widely shared on different social media platforms. The contract indicated that the university hired her as a Brand Ambassador to market the university and its activities for a period of one year.
Bad Black would as well not hold the excitement as she took to her social media platforms to explain how she is a lucky one to land a Brand Ambassadorial role of a University such as Victoria despite her dismal academic qualifications.
“I can’t explain but coming live to address in English as I am the official brand ambassador of Victoria university, I am so happy for my children getting a bursary for international schools,” Black said.
To maintain her position as the University’s Marketer, while appearing on NBS TV for an interview on Tuesday evening, Bad Black was quick to insist that she is truly a brand ambassador for Victoria University.
Black also thanked them for the privilege.Bad Black defended her appointment saying it was on merit as she doesn’t need any academic qualifications to prove her capability to market the university.
“It is my following and influencing that gave me the job because I have the capability to promote and advertise the companies, so they (other companies) are very welcome to me,” she said.
She also revealed that she will be doing a course in digital marketing and English at Victoria University.
