Isma Olaxxess has been arrested and charged - Police CID has said

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Police Crime Investigations Department (CID) detectives have today morning arrested blogger Isma Olaxes aka Isma Kalevu over charges of offensive Communication and Criminal Libel.

CID spokesperson, Mr. Charles Twiine confirmed the arrest of the motormouthed blogger in a tweet through his Twitter handle on Monday morning saying he has been charged in court for the offences commited.

The arrest of Isma Olaxxess, who is the President-elect of Uganda Bloggers comes days after Singer Omulangira Ssuuna the complainant placed shs 1 million cash offer on anyone who arrests him.

“I have looked for him everywhere. I even have a police reference number with me with instructions to arrest him on sight. I also have Shs1 million for whoever knows where I can find him,” Ssuuna said over the weekend.

Ssuuna through his lawyers; Mr. Robert Rutaaro and Mr. Precious Nahabwe from Elgon Associated Advocates, Ssuuna dragged them to court over allegations of defamation and character assassination.

Olaxess of offensive communication and criminal libel, the same offences that saw Next Media’s Isaac Kawalya alias Kays, Bryan Kennedy ‘Waako’, and Williams Makuliro ‘Makko’ remanded to Kitalya prison.

Ssuuna claims that Olaxess, like the other three remanded presenters, has repeatedly attacked him on television falsely speaking about his family, financial status and accusing him of being tormented by evil spirits.

In a previous interview with our reporter, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) spokesperson, ASP Charles Twiine said efforts to apprehend Olaxess were underway.

“He should be a good civilian and bring himself to police to avoid embarrassment,” he said.

According to Twiine, journalists and people in the media should be careful when talking about people in the media to avoid making statements that are criminal in nature.

“These four presenters made repeatedly offensive statements on television despite caution from the complainants. They were warned but continued to repeat the statement,” he said.
