KIGALI, RWANDA: Uganda Cranes defeated Rwanda Amavubi Stars 1-0 to register their first win in Group E of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Israel-based striker Azizi Fahad Bayo’s 41st-minute strike was enough to settle the tie that was played at the Stade De Kigali, Nyamirambo in Kigali city on Thursday evening.

Bayo who was in the right place at the right time pounced in at close range after an initial shot had ricocheted from the post as Rwanda failed to clear their lines from Isaac Muleme’s free kick in the 41st minute.

The Amavubi Stars were in control of the game for extended stretches but could not sustain their attacks as the Cranes sat back.

Uganda defended well and had some good chances to kill off the game but will leave Rwanda not only contented with the performance but with maximum points.

The emphatic win is Micho’s first competitive win since making his return as Uganda Cranes coach and the Serbian will surely commend his players for delivering it against his former employees.

Uganda now move top of Group E with five points before the 10 pm tie between Kenya and Mali and will look to complete a double when they host the Amavubi Stars on Sunday at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
