President Yoweri Museveni is expected at Kololo Independence Grounds to preside over celebrations to mark the 59th Independence anniversary of Motherland Uganda.

10:00am

The Inspector-General of Police, Martins Okoth-Ochola arrived at the venue to take part in the celebrations (photos by UPF).

President Museveni arrives at Kololo Independence Grounds. The Ugandan National Anthem and the East African Community Anthem are played.

Today’s celebration is being marked under the theme, Celebrating our 59th Independence Day as we Secure Our Future through National Mindset Change.

Museveni moves to the spot where the Union Jack used to be hoisted before being replaced with the Ugandan flag in 1962. The National Anthem is played again as the flag is hoisted.

Kampala Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba leads prayers ahead of other religious leaders. He prays for an end to corruption, tribalism among other vices that have affected the country’s economy.

President Museveni takes to the podium at Kololo to deliver his keynote address starts by pointing out that Uganda is now able to solve its own problems – the locusts, the rising water levels, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Museveni reveals that three of his staff tested positive for #Covid_19 after his trip to Dubai. One of them was a mechanic of his aircraft. ‘Be careful, avoid all these unnecessary travels.’

The President hails whistleblowers who come out to report perpetrators of corruption whom he called parasites.

Museveni expresses his appreciation to the global community for always providing a market for Ugandan products.
