ADJUMANI, UGANDA: The office of the Adjumani district traffic police in an exclusive interview with journalists said that many death that occurs in the transport sector in Adjumani district has been attributed to reckless or dangerous driving mostly caused by the motorcyclists, called the boda bodas, self-owned motorbikes, business, and owned vehicles, bicycles among others.

“The three categories of people affected and those that caused the accidents are the drivers, boda boda riders and passengers respectively. Statistically, it has been divided into several categories of accidents like fatal which may lead to death, minor and serious injuries.  The number of fatal accidents that lead to death from January to September stands at 7 where there is one female passenger and the rest are male victims, those who sustained serious injuries is over 47, and those with minor sustained injuries stands at over 23 causalities. Said the officer.”

“We, therefore, call upon government to streamline the boda boda industry in future by giving a must and mandatory order to have riding permits, insurance licenses to curb the rapid cause of death through accidents”. One of the victims of the fatal accident Amacha John who hails from Arra Central, who is nursing broken bones in Adjumani hospital, carried two passengers, knocked a cow while riding from Mukono landing site, Pachara Sub County Adjumani district, on Wednesday last week but the passengers didn’t sustain many injuries.

“I, therefore, urge other riders always to be upright and focused as they ride along the roads because anything can happen when you are not ready to apply breaks”.
