Two deaths reported in Swift Bus explosion as police speak out on alleged attack

KAMPALA, UGANDA; Police has confirmed that two people died on the spot while several other passengers sustained injuries in the suspected bomb explosion on Masaka road.

The explosion occurred on a bus belonging to the Swift Safaris Limited at Lungala in Mpigi at around 5:20 pm on Monday, October 25, 2021.

According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, a team of bomb experts has been dispatched to the crime scene in Lungala-Mpigi as investigations into the alleged bomb attack deepen.

“A team of bomb experts has been dispatched to Lungala, along the Kampala-Masaka highway, after a deadly explosion occurred on a bus belonging to Swift Safaris Bus company under registration number UAU 989T, at around 5 pm. The bus was traveling from Kampala to Bushenyi,” police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said.

He added; “So far two people have been confirmed dead and several other victims including injured persons being evacuated from the scene.”

The incident comes barely two days after the bombers detonated the explosive at Komamboga based Digida pork joint claiming a single life.

The Islamic State fighters on Monday morning claimed to have carried out the attack though the Police say they are still investigating who exactly did so.
