KAMPALA, UGANDA: Traffic along the Kawempe-Bombo Road was paralyzed after the roof of the Equity Bank branch in Kawempe was blown off by the heavy rains on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Traffic police, the fire brigade arrived at the scene and were assisted by residents to remove the debris from the road as Equity workers and staff remain stranded in broad daylight.
The staff of Equity bank declined to comment on the incident. Some were seen struggling to remove some of the debris that had blocked the entrance of the bank.
According to eyewitnesses, there was, fortunately, no person injured by the flying debris.
Sharif Lugonvu, one of the vendors working in Wekembe market which is opposite the bank says that the building occupied by the bank needs to be refurbished.
Badru Wakumi, a vendor at Wekembe market says that the incident should be a wake-up call to KCCA who allowed the erection of a billboard near the market. Wakumi says that the billboard is a threat to the lives of the vendors and wants it relocated.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala police spokesperson said that no person was injured and police came in very first to save the situation so that traffic can flow.
