JINJA, UGANDA: Police in Kiira Region has launched an investigation into the shooting which claimed two lives of a man and a woman on Friday night in Jinja.
The deceased were identified as Juliet Mirembe (female adult) and Saddam Waiswa alias Bontwe (male adult). The duo were attacked and shot at instantly at Lwanda primary school, Jinja North division, Jinja city along Jinja-Kamuli road.
The alleged murderers and robbers took off with Toyota Wish car UBF 359V which the deceased were traveling in.
Kiira region police Spokesperson, ASP James Mubi has confirmed the incident saying that police has stepped up efforts to have the culprits arrested and prosecuted and as well recover the riffle which is in the wrong hands.
”Kiira region together with Central Police Station (CPS) Jinja have stepped up efforts to have the culprits arrested and prosecuted as well as recovering the riffle that is in wrong hands,” Mubi said.
Mubi said that they have also teamed up as security to recover the motor vehicle they robbed and the one they used while committing the crime. He also said that they have since recovered three cartridges for an AK-47 rifle from the scene.
”We have teamed up to recover the motor vehicle they robbed and the one they used while committing the crimes. At the scene, three cartridges for AK-47 rifle have been recovered,” ASP Mubi added.
The incident happened at around 2100/C on November 12, 2021, and very early in the morning, police visited the scene to ascertain more information, according to police.
ASP Mubi urged the public to cooperate with police to make successful investigations by revealing any leading information to steer up investigations. He said that preliminary investigations indicate that the perpetrators were traveling in a Taxi.
”Police calls upon the usual cooperation of the public to provide information that can be of value in the investigations. We have since received information that the culprits were traveling in a taxi,” he said.
The cases of murder by shooting and aggregated robbery have been opened up at Jinja CPS vide CRB 901/2021 of CPS Jinja.
The deceased persons’ bodies were taken to Jinja regional referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem analysis and report.
Meanwhile, DailyExpress has learnt that police have since recovered the vehicle, Toyota Wish UBF 359V, which the deceased persons were traveling in, and four live AK-47 ammunition. They were recovered at Ikaumi village in Kakira Town council, Jinja district.
