It was a ‘Bomb Scare’ at Akamwesi Shopping Mall, says Police

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police have dismissed claims of a bomb explosion at Akamwesi Mall along Gayaza road in Kampala, saying it was “just a bomb scare.”

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the law enforcement body dispatched a team of experts on receiving a tip but didn’t find any explosive.

Earlier, Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) spokesperson Irene Nakasiita said ambulances had been dispatched after receiving information about a bomb explosion.

“We have dispatched a rescue team to support alongside Ambulances just in case any life saving interventions are required,” said Nakasiita.

She later said in a brief message: “Community reports that Police condoned off the place and collected the object. Scene is secure now.”

Akamwesi Shopping Mall is located in the vibrant Kyebando suburb along Gayaza Road, in Kampala.

The development comes just days after a double bomb explosion hit Kampala on Tuesday, claiming seven lives and leaving scores injured.
