KAGADI: Livestock transporters urged to acquire travel permits to curb theft of cattle

KAGADI, UGANDA: Police in Kagadi has directed Livestock transporters to acquire travel permits in a move to curb livestock theft that has taken precedence in the district and region.

While addressing the media on Monday at Kagadi Central Police station, Kagadi DPC SD Moses Muzima Kiconco said that they have numerous complaints from Farmers regarding theft of their livestock.
“In regard to the rampant livestock theft in Kagadi District, all livestock transporters should first get permission from the local council chairpersons of the areas where animals and poultry are, or from the District Veterinary Officer, and these permits shall be issued periodically”. Said the Kagadi DPC.

Kiconco says that the stolen animals are usually transported at night and says as we are heading to festive season livestock theft cases increase.

The DPC also rallied the general public to be security conscious at all times in order to protect their livestock from thieves and also report to authorities in case of any unauthorized livestock transporters in their area.

He also warned residents from violating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“We are also aware that some people have completely refused to obey the SOPs set by the ministry of health, as law enforcement team we are going to arrest and charge those found guilty” Kiconco adds.
