Oulanyah to headline Makerere’s Stakeholders Mobilization ahead of its Centenary Celebrations

KAPALA, UGANDA: The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Jacob Oulanyah is set to preside over the stakeholders’ mobilization event this Thursday at Makerere University as Uganda’s oldest institution kickoffs its Centenary celebrations which will be held throughout next year 2022.

“The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah, a Makerere alumnus, will preside over the event, which will also feature a round-table discussion with other prominent Makerere University Alumni, on the subject of centenary celebrations,” the University announced on Tuesday morning.

The Makerere University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe applauded stakeholders for supporting the University over the years and urged them to take keen interest in the celebrations.

“We want to mark 100 years of excellence with all our stakeholders. In the days ahead, we will reach out to the broader University community of students, staff, alumni, development partners both nationally and internationally, and well-wishers for their participation in the centennial celebrations,” Nawangwe said.

Rt. Hon. Daniel Kidega, the Chairperson Organizing Committee said, “Starting with the stakeholders’ event, we will discuss and showcase Makerere’s past successes, the present opportunities and prospects. We urge you to provide whatever support you can to make the planned events and activities a resounding success.”

The University has over 300,000 alumni spread across the globe.

“The Centennial celebrations are in line with the University’s remarkable journey of touching lives, training and nurturing human resources in different fields/disciplines, and making the world a better place through significant contributions to human and social transformation,” the organizers said.

Established in 1922 with only 14 students, Makerere University has grown over the years to become one of the leading Universities in the world.
