KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Minister of Works and Transport Gen Edward Katumba Wamala has ordered the suspension of a section of Uganda Airlines staff following a viral video of a man vending grasshoppers (Nsenene) onboard one of the carrier’s airplanes.
The video which went viral on the internet on Friday evening showed a yet-to-be-identified man dishing out nsenene snacks to seated passengers in the economy class, from a large blue polythene bag.
“It’s 10,000 shillings,” the man is heard shouting out to his customers, some lining up in the isle of the Airbus A330.
The video sparked outrage from members of the public with many commentators describing the act as being substandard and demeaning of the airline status.
The viral video according to highly placed sources within the Ministry of Works sparked fury and anger from Minister Katumba Wamala forcing the suspension of “all those responsible for organizing the flight, except those in the cockpit.” Katumba according to the source, described the incident as “terrible”.
It was not yet clear how many employees have been suspended although, by press time, the top management at Uganda Airlines was still tight-lipped on the matter.
A source at the Airlines, however, said the airline was drafting a statement on the matter and will be communicated in due course.
