WhatsApp adds ‘waveform feature’ for voice notes with beta update

TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION: WhatsApp has reportedly started to roll out new voice notes layout to a few users. According to a report on WABetaInfo, the Facebook-owned platform has been working on the visual upgrade for quite a while and it is now available to a few Android and iOS users with the latest beta update.

As per the report, specific beta testers can now see voice waveforms in chat bubbles. Several users can now see voice waveforms for voice notes if the feature is enabled for their WhatsApp account.

However, the report specifically mentions that the voice waveforms may not show up when receiving a voice note from someone that does not have the feature enabled.

Users will also miss out on the voice waveforms design on a voice note if it has been recorded using an old version of WhatsApp. The platform first enabled the new voice notes layout in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.13.17 version, but it was immediately disabled after a new update.

As mentioned above, the visual upgrade is only available to selected Android and iOS smartphone users but it is expected that it will be rolled out to more users in upcoming updates.

WhatsApp recently also started to roll out a feature for web users that allows them to create their own stickers from the Photos in the gallery.

The feature enables users to quickly create a sticker from an image within the platform without using any third-party apps. The platform also offers a bunch of editing tools such as Outline, Emoji, Sticker, Text, Paint and Crop & Rotate and further allows users to modify the image.

As of now, this feature is only available to WhatsApp web users and there is no information from the company about the availability of the feature on other platforms.
