Shock in Kagadi as residents discover fellow dead in police cells

ASP Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident

KAGADI, UGANDA: Residents of Mutumba village Kagadi sub-county Kagadi district were surprised by the death of their fellow who was found lying lifeless inside police cells.

The deceased identified as Edward Mugisa aged 20 years old was a son of Kryzestom Bisaaniko also a resident of Mutumba village in Kagadi District.

It is alleged that the deceased was arrested on Tuesday this week after his father and other family members reported him to police accusing him of disturbing them more especially when drunk.

Preliminary investigations show that Mugisa was severely beaten by his father and relatives before he was handed over to the police.

As soon as the residents got the information about Mugisa’s death, they stormed his father’s home and hacked 2 pigs to death and destroyed other properties accusing him of beating his son severely and later handed over to police where he was found dead.

“Mugisa succumbed to severe beatings by his father and relatives because he was drunk but his father suspected him to have smoked marijuana and they decided to beat him up where he lost energy and hence leading to his death since he was not treated while in police cells”. Said the angry residents.

However, Bisaaniko the father of the deceased denied the allegations of killing his own son but attributed Mugisa’s death to too much drinking of alcohol.

“Because of marijuana, alcohol and other drugs taken, he came home fighting sisters and chased everybody who was at home by then and then we caught as family members and arrested him took him to police”. Bisaaniko says.

Meanwhile, Julius Allan Hakiza the Albertine Regional police spokesperson condemned the mob act by the residents who stormed Bisaaniko’s home and destroyed his properties.

“I condemn the act by residents who stormed Bisaaniko’s home and killed his animals and also destroyed other properties, this is illegal in case of any dissatisfaction in your Community, you’re advised to report to police”. Hakiza said.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Kagadi Hospital pending for a postmortem.
