HOIMA, UGANDA: Two medical workers and one surgeon attached to Butema health center iii in Buhanika Sub county in Hoima District are to appear in Hoima magestrates court tomorrow on charges of selling Covid 19 vaccination cards to unvaccinated people.
Police arrested the two medical workers on Monday afternoon and a surgeon was arrested on weekend.
The three suspects are said to have coordinated with the health facility’s cleaner identified as Ivan Bigirwa who found and arrested at Booma grounds on Sunday afternoon selling Covid 19 vaccination cards to Hoima city residents who were not yet vaccinated.
Police rushed Bigirwa to Hoima CPS where he is currently detained.
Julius Allan Hakiza the Albertine Regional police spokesperson confirmed the arrests.
“After the arrest of Bigirwa, police called two medical workers to make statements on how a hospital cleaner accessed the stamped vaccination cards from the hospital with out their notice”. Hakiza said.
Hakiza added that the preliminary investigations shows that the medical workers coordinated with the hospital cleaner to sell these cards for a price between 50000/=and 100000/=.
The police spokesperson further noted that apparently they are still hunting other workers of Butema Health Center III who were called up make statements but they are still at large.
