Three hospital workers charged for selling Covid 19 vaccination cards

HOIMA, UGANDA: The Hoima Grade I magistrates court has charged two medical workers and the hospital cleaner attached to Butema Health Centre iii in Buhanika Sub-county in Hoima district on charges of forgery and coordinating to commit a crime.

In a court sitting on Wednesday afternoon led by the Hoima Grade I Magistrate Esther Asiimwe in Hoima city. The prosecuted workers include Rhoda Aheebwa the officer in charge of Butema Health Centre iii, Emmanuel Onyol the medical assistant, and Ivan Bigirwa the hospital cleaner.

Prosecution alleges that on 30th December 2021, the trio and others who are still at large were found selling Covid 19 vaccination cards to unvaccinated persons in Hoima city.

The trio were arrested by police after police’s notification by a concerned citizen in Hoima city selling one of the cards to Ibrahim Aseera a resident of public cell in Hoima city at a fee of 82000/=.

The two charges of forgery and coordinating to commit crime we’re read to them by the Hoima Grade one Magistrate. However the trio denied the charges that were read to them in front of the Grade I Magistrate.

Counsel Baryabanze of Baryabanze and Company advocate who stood up for the accused asked the Magistrate to grant them bail saying the trio have other responsibilities and they are very responsible citizens.

Later Justice Asiimwe granted them bail and directed them to report back to court on 9th of February this year.
