Two fishermen dead as boat capsizes on Lake Albert

Police and residents in a hunt of the dead bodies

HOIMA, UGANDA: Two fishermen attached to Kibiro landing site have been reported dead after drowning in Lake Albert waters in Hoima District.

The incident occurred in Kyamwaana village at Kibiro landing site in Hoima District. The deceased have been identified as Godfrey Kandole and one Richard all residents of Kibiro landing site.

It is alleged the duo succumbed to death on Tuesday night due to strong waves at the Lake which led their boat to capsize.

Godfrey Abigaba the Kibiro landing site chairperson says the incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 9 pm after four fishermen went to catch fish in Lake Albert waters.

“Two died on spot and the two were rescued by the residents after their boat capsized due to strong wind”. Abigaba said.

Abigaba adds that residents and the UPDF army have commenced the search of the dead bodies but he says up to now they have not recovered any due to the continued strong winds.

“We already at the site trying to search for the dead bodies, but nothing recovered yet because we are still challenged by the strong winds on Lake Albert waters”. Abigaba adds
