Transport fares remain constant as schools reopen

Humphry Mugisa the chairperson of Hoima Taxi and Bus parks says the decision was made after the government allowed taxis and buses to carry passengers at full capacity.

HOIMA, UGANDA: Transport fares in Hoima Taxi and Bus parks have remained constant despite a heavy turn up of passengers as schools reopen for all learners.

Humphry Mugisa the chairperson of Hoima Taxi and Bus parks says the decision was made after the government allowed taxis and buses to carry passengers at full capacity.

In Hoima Bus park, from Hoima to Kampala, passengers are requested to pay 25000/= while in Hoima Taxi park they are paying 20000/= for the same journey.

“Since the government permitted us to carry full board, we have decided to maintain our transport fares for all routes despite a heavy turn up of learners going back to school”. Mugisa said.

He also urged all drivers to maintain SOPs, avoid reckless driving, overloading, and overspeeding as they drive learners back to school to avoid accidents.

“In a special note am thanking Hoima drivers because they have managed to complete the festive season with any serious accident, and therefore am warning you against careless driving, overloading, and also maintaining SOPs to avoid accidents and the spread of Covid 19 respectively as our children return to school”.
