KIKUUBE, UGANDA: The Education sector in Kikuube district has announced a ban on unvaccinated teachers from accessing schools as learners report back for resumption of studies.
Speaking to DailyExpress on Thursday, Deogratias Byakagaba the Kikuube District Education Officer says 95% of teachers are already vaccinated and only 5% are not vaccinated.
He says most of the vaccinated have reported to their duties and those who are not yet vaccinated shall not report to their duties until they present proof of vaccination.
“The biggest percentage of the vaccinated teachers are already at school and we shall not allow unvaccinated teachers to access their respective schools until they proof to us that they have been vaccinated”, said Mr. Byakagaba.
The DEO, however, expressed concern over the low turn up of learners in schools more especially government-aided primary and secondary Schools.
He says by close of business on Wednesday, the district had only registered 40% turn up and by Monday it was less than 20%.
“We are also facing a challenge of low turn up in schools more especially government-aided primary and secondary Schools which is not good news for the education sector and therefore am warning all parents who are yet to send back their children to school to voluntarily send them before we use an iron hand”, Byakagaba said.
