Masindi District leaders decry increased cases of family neglect by husbands

MASINDI, UGANDA: Leaders in Masindi have expressed concern over the increased cases where husbands have neglected their families and shun their responsibilities as parents.

Peter Mukasa, the Masindi Central Police station Community Liaison officer says police are receiving various cases from housewives accusing their husbands of failing to look after their families.

“Since this month began more especially after the reopening of schools, my office receives more than five cases connected to the neglect of families by husbands and most of the wives are coming here with their children wearing dirty clothes saying that their husbands abandoned their responsibilities”. Mukasa said.

Mukasa says due to the neglect of families by husbands, housewives are finding hardships of looking after their families as well as paying school fees to the school-going children hence ending up seeking support from the police.

He, therefore, urged couples to be faithful to each other and also work jointly to improve their household income which he says may reduce domestic Violence cases in Masindi district.
