KIGALI, RWANDA: Former KCCA FC Manager Mike Hilary Mutebi has been unveiled as the new head coach of Rwanda Premier League side AS Kigali, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
Mutebi who guided KCCA to three league titles is set to work will work alongside former Cranes captain Jackson “Mia Mia” Mayanja as his immediate assistant.
Mutebi takes over from interim manager Jimmy Mulisa who had replaced sacked Eric Nshimiyimana.
Prior to their unveiling, the pair attended the club’s league game against Bugesera FC on the very evening which ended 1-2 in AS Kigali’s favor.
Mutebi has been jobless since he was relieved of his duties at the 13-time Uganda Premier League winners in March this year, same as Mayanja who was sacked at Kyetume FC.
Despite having been previously linked to clubs including Vipers Sports Club (Uganda), Azam FC (Tanzania), Kiyovu SC (Rwanda) among others, the soft-spoken tactician has stayed jobless until AS Kigali struck a deal with him to uplift their form and get them back in contention for the league title.
The club is currently positioned 3rd on the 16-team log of the Rwanda National Football League with 23 points, three shy of Kiyovu SC who are second-placed.
