In his last address to the country on December 31st, 2021, Mr. Museveni okayed the reopening of schools on January 10, and also lifted countrywide lockdown on all sectors except for the bars and entertainment industry in a move towards the full reopening of the economy.
He (Museveni), noted in his address that the entertainment industry will reopen two weeks (14 days) after the schools reopen, which is today, Monday, January 24, 2021, giving revelers the chance t yet again thrive in the much-anticipated music concerts and booze industry.
In the same measures, curfew has also officially been for all except the boda bodas who will still have to maintain their operations not exceeding 7 pm until further notice.
In an exclusive interview with Urban TV, Mr. Museveni said he maintains his word of reopening the economy fully, but for boda bodas, he realized his team of experts did it due to security reasons, not for the spread of COVID-19 but they’ll look into it and this might be revised!
However, SOPs will still have to be followed and vaccination being mandatory for public transport users and revelers in concerts although some of these measures may be reversed according to the COVID-19 rate.
It remains to be known if curfew time for boda bodas will be lifted, or maintained, despite call from stakeholders to allow bodas to operate beyond the 7 pm curfew.
