Crested Cranes seal qualification for 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations

The Crested Cranes who entered camp this week were supposed to face off with Harambe Starlets in the last qualifying stage next month with the first leg scheduled for 17th February and the return leg coming on 23rd February.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Uganda Senior Women’s National Football Team – the Crested Cranes will play at the 2022 Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following the withdrawal of Kenya from the competition.

The Crested Cranes who entered camp this week were supposed to face off with Harambe Starlets in the last qualifying stage next month with the first leg scheduled for 17th February and the return leg coming on 23rd February.

However, communication from CAF addressed to FUFA on Friday, January 28 confirmed the withdrawal of Kenya from the Qualifiers giving the Crested Cranes an automatic ticket to the 2022 edition that will be held in August in Morocco.

“We regret to inform you that we have just received a Kenya FA correspondence informing us of their withdrawal from Women AFCON- Morocco 2022,” reads the statement.

“Consequently, matches 45 and 46 are cancelled as well as the missions of all designated officials and Uganda is automatically qualified to the next round of the competition,” The statement further reads.

Uganda had eliminated Ethiopia at the first round of the 2022 Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

This will be the second appearance for Crested Cranes at the Africa Women Cup of Nations with the first coming in 2000.
