Prof Mutebile’s Body arrives in Kabale ahead of Sunday Burial

KABALE, UGANDA: The body of the late Bank of Uganda Governor Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile on Saturday evening arrived in Kabale municipality ahead of his burial on Sunday.

Mutebile’s body, airlifted by a UPDF chopper in company of a few family members from Kampala was received by Ministers David Bahato and Chris Baryomunsi at Kabale Gold Course in Kabale District at around 4:15 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Addressing mourners who thronged the gold course to witness the arrival of the fallen economist, Minister Baryomunsi said that as per the burial program, there will be prayers and vigil today at Mutebile’s home and then tomorrow starting at midday there will be a requiem service at Kigezi lower playground.

Thereafter, the body will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Ruhiita village, Kijuguta ward in the Northern division of Kabale municipality on Sunday afternoon.

The minister also revealed that due to limited space, only a few people will be allowed to access his home for Saturday’s vigil and that those that will be allowed will have to observe SOPs due to the period of COVID- 19 in the country

Baryomunsi also condoled with the family of Former Ethics Minister, Rev. Fr. Simon Lokodo who passed away in Geneva, Switzerland on Saturday where he had gone for his official work as a commissioner of the Uganda Human Rights Service Commission.

He said government was working hard to establish the cause of his death and working around the clock to have his body repatriated in Uganda as they make arrangements for his burial.
